Nashville Place

A fusion of country and pop that progressed in the 1950’s, Nashville music was a protrusion of swing and jazz that heated up in the 1930’s to 1940’s. Not to mention, with the mixture of the narratives of the honky- tonkers. To have a better idea of this art, below is an overview on the life of Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves.

Patsy Cline is an epitome of versatility. Not only did she actively took part in the scene of Nashville music, she also did the same in the field of dancing. At a tender age of four, she already won an amateur contest. Aside from that, Cline also learned how to play the piano at eight. As a teenager, she sang at local clubs which was the reason why she arrived in Tennessee on 1948. Less than a decade later, she coveted the first prize in Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout Show with her rendition of “Walking After Midnight.”

In 1961, Patsy Cline had her own track, “I Fall Into Pieces” that ushered her to the pinnacle of her profession. Later on, “When I

Get Through With You”, “Crazy”, “She’s Got You”, “Strange” and “Who Can I Count On?” followed. It was also the very same period where Cline was featured in the famous Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. “So Wrong”, “Release Me” and “Imagine That” continued to ascend even if she was connected with theater.

March 5, 1963 saddened all the fans of Patsy Cline. She passed away on that day due to an air disaster. She was on her way back home to Camden from a benefit concert in Kansas together with Cowboy Copas and Hawshaw Hawkins who also lost their lives because of the tragedy. However, even with the death of Cline, her memory was not quickly erased as her cuts “Faded Love” and “Sweet Dreams”

were constantly requested. In 1973, she was voted into the Hall of Fame for her inputs in Nashville music.

Jim Reeves is a native of Texas who was best known in the history of Nashville music for his big contribution. He grew up with a huge interest in two areas, music and sports. He paid more attention to sports though where he was even admitted in the baseball varsity team of his school. When Reeves had the opportunity to be with the Saint Louis Cardinals, he did not miss the chance of giving his best shot. At one game, he met an accident that ended his career and paved the way for another to rise.

After Jim Reeves married Mary White in 1947, they moved to Shreveport where he accepted the job as a radio announcer. Most of the time, he is tasked to promote the Haryride Show where he even ended up singing at certain occasions. When Hank Williams did not make it, Reeves was asked to be the proxy. Little did he know, the owner of Abbot Records, Fabor Robinson, was in the audience and was very much impressed with his performance. A recording contract immediately came after and soon enough, the song “Mexican Joe” was soaring on the airwaves.

The year 1955 for Jim Reeves was remarkable, aside from gaining a deal with RCA, he also joined the famous Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. Two years later, his album entitled “Four Walls” was said to be an evidence of a real turning point as an artist. In 1959, Reeves released a compilation of all his greatest hits in “He’ll Have To Go.” It was another massive victory that heralded him to instant stardom. However, everything reached into a halt when the plane he was riding crashed on July 31, 1964. Today, he is voted into the Hall of Fame for his role in the development of Nashville music.

Even with the advent of contemporary genres, Nashville music remains in the industry.
